Fergus shows off his Labrador heritage in his lustrous solid dark chocolate coat; just imagine the finest chocolate, smooth and velvety. Only a scant pound behind his brother, Gus is the middle child of the trio, laid back in his approach to life. Gus, and his sister and brother, came into ARF’s care because of an irresponsible breeder. The pups were born May 24 as a litter of 8. Due to their mixed parentage, the litter could not pull in top dollar for the breeder who brought them into the world to begin with. The breeder’s solution was to dump the pups in a high kill public shelter. Illinois Doberman Rescue (IDR) and ARF cosponsored pulling the litter to safety in rescue, narrowly avoiding their destruction. ARF is fostering three of the pups, Eleanor, Fergus and Fergus, while seeking their perfect permanent family placement. The first few days were pretty confusing for the pups, rescue, transport, vetting, medications, etc. Gus has embraced it all and made a smooth transition to an indoor home, family life and the perks of fresh water, clean food, a warm bed and toys that come with it. He has learned about stairs, doors, kittens, noisy dishwashers, collars, chew toys, big foster sisters and much, much more. Gus returns the love of his foster family tenfold in his shining eyes, playful attitude and puppy kisses. He is working the hardest on housebreaking, being consistent with using papers at night and going outside during the day. Gus’s next objective is basic commands and beginning leash walking. We are sure that he will be the star of his puppy class with his hardworking approach. Fergie currently weighs 18lbs, has a docked tail, is micro-chipped, up to date on vaccinations and is neutered. His new family will be required to enroll him in a basic obedience course of their choosing.
