We know very little about Yoshi’s past, but he’s shown a great personality and smarts for his future.  This probable miniature schnauzer/poodle mix is about 4 years old, and is non-shedding (but needs occasional grooming/trimming to keep looking debonair).  He was vet-checked and neutered on 7/17/12, with some routine follow-up care needed through 8/7/12. Yoshi was rescued by ARF from a Kankakee shelter that he ended up at when his family left him at their home after they moved.  He is reliably house-trained and will let you know when he needs to go out when it’s off schedule.

Yoshi obviously knew love and a good home at one time (perhaps in an apartment, as he hasn’t shown a lot of interest in watching outside).  He likes going outside and walks well on a loose-leash.  He likes humans a lot; he is affectionate and loves to lie in a lap and have his belly rubbed, or just gaze at you very frankly.  He’s curious about other dogs, but if they are not calm, he’d rather keep his distance.  He’s met several of the neighbor dogs, and the big or jumpy ones make him retreat.  Not really scared, just not interested.  He is not phased by vehicle or other loud noises.

Yoshi looks to be an incredibly smart animal—he differentiated between “toy” (a soft chew) and “ball” within a day.  He knows “sit” and “stay” and is developing exemplary door etiquette.  He can entertain himself, and likes to play “keep away” with his toys—always letting you get just close enough, or sometimes get a hand on for some tug-o-war.

When he first came to his foster, he was very anxious about being separated, especially when the human was still in the house or yard.  He adjusted within a few days and knows “there is no crying in foster care”.  To help him become more confident, he has been sleeping in his own downstairs space—he understands the crate and is fine with it, but has not needed to be latched into it since the second night.

Yoshi likes vegetables, too!  Crunchy carrot or cucumber pieces go over well as treats.  After the first few days, when his teeth probably hurt from extractions, he has not been picky about his food or regular Milk-bones.

Yoshi would be a good match for a first-time owner or someone who is not comfortable with a lot of training.  He will need to be kept mentally active, and “fun” training will be a bonding experience. He is a super sweet dog, very mellow, affectionate--just an easy going dog that would fit into most any family. Worms his way into your heart almost immediately.

Yoshi is housebroken, micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and is neutered.  His adoption fee is $250. Fill out an application online today! http://arf-il.org/application.html

Yoshi will be at our Petsmart event in Wheaton on 7/28!  (While we welcome everyone to come meet our available animals, please understand that if there is a preapproved applicant with a confirmed appointment, they will be first to meet him.)

Adoption appointments are scheduled based on the order of applications received, so submit your application early! Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions or schedule meetings until your application has been approved. More information about our adoption process can be found on our website here: https://www.arf-il.org/adopt/

As an all-volunteer, foster home-based organization, A.R.F. Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. Please visit https://www.arf-il.org/events/ for a list of our upcoming adoption events.

Thank you for choosing to adopt, not shop!
