Hi, my name is Capone. I am a 3 ½ yr old Italian mastiff mix. My dad says I am ALL Cane Corso, but my mom thinks I have Neopolitan in me as well. My original owners decided they didn’t want me, kept me locked up in a kennel for 90 days before my current mom and dad saved me last year. I had a hard time adjusting after being behind bars for so long with not a lot of human interaction and no structure. My mom and dad worked with me every day and told me how much they loved me… they really saw potential in me that I didn’t even know I had! I now sit patiently and wait for my dinner to be served (which is really hard because at 135 pounds, I am a big boy and I love my food), I walk nicely on a leash, I sit down when I want to be pet (ok, maybe that’s still a work in progress), and I even walk into my kennel when I am told. The kennel thing was really hard for me! I didn’t want to be behind bars again but mom and dad worked with me and convinced me they would be back to get me when they got back from work. They also said it was for my safety because I like to eat toilet paper and garbage diving is my favorite past time! I love my family so much and I know they love me now so my kennel is a cool place to hang out during the day. I can be a bit of a hot head sometimes…. I want my family to be safe so I am very protective of my yard. If there is someone on the other side of the fence, I will bark and run to the fence to let them know I do not approve of them. And if a stranger comes to the door, I have to sit next to my mom and let my presence be known quietly. I can be confrontational sometimes so when I meet someone new, it is better if they do not stare me in the face. I love most grown ups but young kids (under 12 yrs) I am still learning to trust. As long as you have got my approval, you can pet me all you want – especially my belly!!! I am picky about who I call my dog friends. I have been working on introductions to new dogs but it is still a work in progress. I get along great with my housemates though – 3 rat terriers and 2 cats!

So why am I telling you all of this? Well, my current mom and dad have decided to get a divorce. My mom can not take me with her – she cries a lot when you talk to her about it – and my dad works long hours and does not think it is fair to keep me in my kennel so much. They are concerned about finding another family to love me like they do. And they are also concerned about my health. You see, my mom is a certified vet tech and she works at this great specialty hospital that saved my life earlier this year. For some reason, my liver and my body do not get along very well and my internal medicine doctor said I have to take these medications to make my liver happy. Possibly for the rest of my life! I know some of my quirks sound scary but my mom says I am a teddy bear in a dog’s body and I have a big heart waiting for someone new! Oh and I drool occasionally! I do need to be reminded of my manners sometimes so I need someone that is familiar with mastiffs and is vocally assertive. I would love to be an only dog as I LOVE all the attention to be on me but would possibly be interested in sharing my new family with others. I come with my kennel, my food bowls, my drool towels, my bone and my medical records. Mom is really good about keeping me up to date. Please consider giving me a new forever home! I want to see my mom and dad smile again and I know they will if someone gives me a good, loving home!
