Approximately 11-week old Schmaltie Hansel was rescued when the pet store in which he was living closed and he was to be sent to the county kill shelter. When he arrived at his foster home, it was clear that he'd spent his tiny life in a cage and was unused to the touch of human hands. He would cringe and scurry away, trying to find a space he could hide, if you tried touch him. It has been such a thrill to watch Hansel evolve over his first few days in his foster home. After just three days of patience and love, Hansel is now running up to his foster parents and asking to be picked up and snuggled! With lots of praise and positive reinforcement, his confidence is building daily. He's really learning to trust people.
Naturally curious, Hansel likes to explore his new surroundings. He enjoys running and playing with his foster siblings and is learning about toys. Good, nutritious food and tasty treats are new experiences that he relishes. Hansel likes climbing on the back of "Annie the Nanny," the resident Great Dane/Pit Bull mix who is the foster puppy nurturer, when she's lying down. When his busy puppy day is done, Hansel loves to snuggle up in a doggy bed with one or more of his siblings. He will sleep through the night and wakes up happy and ready for more new experiences every day.
Now that he is more confident, Hansel will begin learning puppy manners. He is in housebreaking 101 and uses puppy pads most of the time. He is a very bright little boy and will pick potty training up quickly.
Hansel has had his first puppy shots, been microchipped, and dewormed. He will need to be neutered and attend a positive reinforcement obedience class as part of his adoption contract.
If you are looking for a sweet, energetic bundle of love and are willing to be patient and loving, Hansel's is waiting to meet you. Hansel's adoption fee is $400. More about HanselGood with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
