Tarragon is an 8 week old male Old English Sheep dog and weighs 14 pounds. Tarragon is very affectionate; enjoying pets and snuggles. He has begun potty training, but is too young to be fully trained and will need continued work. Tarragon also likes to play with toys, and always needs something to chew on. He is great with other dogs, new people, and would probably be great with cat siblings, in addition, as he does not seem to pay much attention to the squirrels he encounters outside. As a puppy, Tarragon requires lots of exercise. He enjoys running around a yard but will need leashed walks to continue his socialization. He would really benefit from an active family to walk and run with him. Tarragon is incredibly intelligent and will need a family to continue his training, and who will keep his brain working. Old English Sheepdogs do require a fair amount of exercise, along with plenty of socialization. These dogs require a firm, patient hand and are not ideal for first-time dog owners. They are inherently working dogs and are happiest when they have tasks to do, be that obedience competition or herding a flock. OES typically range in weight between 65 and100 pounds. These are fairly slow maturing dogs, reaching adult height by about one year of age but not filling out totally until two or three years. Also, expect to devote about three-to-four hours a week grooming your Old English Sheepdog’s shaggy coat once they reach adulthood. This pup is micro-chipped and up to date on all vaccinations, and neutered. The new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. The pup's adoption fee is $1200. Please note ARF does not approve applications for any puppy under 6 months of age to families that live outside of Illinois and/or beyond 100 miles of Wheaton or Glen Ellyn, IL.
