About Harley

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Adoption Fee: 400
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: D220103

Harley is a 1 year old spayed female Beagle (and probably lab) mix who weighs in at 29 pounds.  Harley is a sweetheart!  She loves to be pet and snuggled, and will happily crawl up on your lap to be close to you.  It is hard not to fall in love with Harley, and she quickly returns your affection.  Although her foster home does not have any other dogs, cats, or children, Harley has encountered all with comfort and interest - no animosity to any.  Harley is still learning things like sit and stay, and happily comes if you call her name and clap or whistle.

Harley loves to be with her people, and is pretty unhappy to be left alone.  She is a bit of an escape artist, and is learning to settle in her crate.  This entails initially barking and crying like her heart is broken, but then settling and greeting you calmly and happily upon your return.  She likes to sleep on her blanket and on top of a soft pillow.  Harley is doing well with house training with only the very occasional accident.

Harley is happy to ride in the car and manages to receive many happy glances from folks in other cars.  She enjoys a fast walk, but will adjust her speed for her human companion.  She tugs, but is small enough that it is not a problem.  She loves to eat a bit of tall grass as she walks, and is excited to greet other dogs on leashes.   After a good walk, Harley loves to nap in the sun, outside or in front of a window.  As Harley settled into her foster home, her puppy side really started to show! She will tease by grabbing a rag or a shoe and running with it, and jumping on furniture.  She won't get off on her own, but does not fight when given a little tug on her harness to help her down.  Keeping things picked up will be key, or she will make it her personal chew toy! Participation in obedience training will go a long way in helping Harley learn some of these basic manners.

Harley will run like crazy around her foster's fenced-in back yard, and will usually enjoy a fast game of "fetch."  To her the game includes running after the ball, tumbling over it, tossing it in the air, and rarely actually returning it.  Her foster will use one chucker and 3 tennis balls.  It is however, usually up to her foster to gather all of the balls up.  And every so often, Harley will totally ignore the ball!

Any family would be lucky to get such a beautiful, sweet, vivacious, devilish and delightful pet!

Harley is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and spayed.  Her new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing.

Harley's adoption fee is $400.  A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting Harley fill out an Online Application today!

Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.

Adoption appointments are scheduled based on the order of applications received, so submit your application early! Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions or schedule meetings until your application has been approved. More information about our adoption process can be found on our website here: https://www.arf-il.org/adopt/

As an all-volunteer, foster home-based organization, A.R.F. Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. Please visit https://www.arf-il.org/events/ for a list of our upcoming adoption events.

Thank you for choosing to adopt, not shop!
