Update: Situation becomes more critical as son's asthma continues to worsen. Family desperately wants to find dog a good home. They don't want to have to choose between their child's health and putting Nakita in dangerous setting at local animal control.

Here is Nakita's story as told by the family who loves her most and is heartbroken having to write this...

Nakita, a Siberian Husky, was adopted by us when she was 1. She had a rough first year of life and came to us under-weight and not eating. When we brought her home, she started eating dog food within a couple days and adjusted to her new home. At first, we couldn't get her to go to the bathroom outside (only on the ceramic floor). Once we had a fenced in yard, she had no problem with her housebreaking and she loved playing and running in the yard.. Nakita started having seizures about 2 years later. We worked with the vet and they are now controlled with medication. She is such a wonderful dog and we couldn't ask for a dog with a better personality for our children. Nakita was our first "child". In 2006, our daughter joined our family and Nakita was wonderful. She plays with Nakita all the time. They are great "friends". She is always trying to play and Nakita loves it. Recently, we had our son. Since then, we have had to come to a difficult decision to find Nakita a loving home. Our son has allergies and his asthma is severly impacted as a result. We hope to find Nakita a wonderful family who will enjoy her as much as we have.

As an FYI, phenobarbital is a very inexpensive medicine and is all she needs to control her seizures.

Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions or schedule meetings until your application has been approved. More information about our adoption process can be found on our website here: https://www.arf-il.org/adopt/

As an all-volunteer, foster home-based organization, A.R.F. Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. Please visit https://www.arf-il.org/events/ for a list of our upcoming adoption events.
